Traveller vs. Tourist, Flexible vs. Package

Traveller vs. Tourist

Anyone who has done any travelling might understand the difference between a Tourist and a Traveller.

Being an Independent Traveller...
You can get closer to the culture, the people and the places.
You can venture off the beaten track and see more than most visitors.
You get more value for money.
You often meet and befriend interesting people from all around the world.

Being a Tourist...
You get to stay in a hotels which are just the same as any hotel in the world.
You get to pay twice as much for half the holiday.
You get to strut around the place with the attitude "I paid a lot of money for this holiday - so I practically own the place!".

If you hadn't guessed already - Indie-Traveller.com provides a useful and free service for the traveller - hoping eventually to make it easier for more people to travel more independently.

Flexible vs. Package

We've all been on Package Holidays and quite often, for a one week Sun,  Sea and Sand holiday - a package deal can quite often can be cheapest way to go.

For a more adventurous holiday, doing and seeing a bit more, maybe a bit further away, in a more unusual place, from a couple of weeks to a couple of years - it's nice to be able to be more flexible.

By Travellers - For Travellers

I had the idea for Indie-Traveller.com - simply because there didn't seem to be an easy way to find out up-to-date where to go, where to stay, where to eat, where to drink etc., information over the web.
Also - keeping the folks at home up-to-date can also start tuning into a chore!

Wouldn't it be great to have a one-stop Web Service specifically designed for World Independent Travellers - one place where you can...
Quickly find useful or interesting information about anywhere in the world.
Be able to access that information through your current, next or home location and possibly filter on your own personal interests.
Easily update Personal messages Travel Logs and location information on your own site - which can be read by friends and fellow travellers.
Allow people to leave messages for you on your site as well as keep track of you.

This is exactly what Indie-Traveller.com aims to provide.

James (me) and Harvey are the developers of the framework supporting Indie-Traveller.com and are both keen travellers.
Reviewing and recommending places to visit and stay, trips to take, pubs/clubs to go to, things to do can be done quickly and easily done by ALL members while travelling.
It's essential for keeping Indie-Traveller.com information current, vibrant, varied and truly world-wide.
